Clinical Research

What is a Clinical Research Study?
Clinical research studies help researchers learn more about diseases and evaluate potential new approaches to prevention, diagnosis and treatment. This brief video explains how clinical research works, what participation may involve and how studies can help advance care for future patients.

Find a Clinical Trial

Clinical trials offer patients access to promising new approaches to cancer care before FDA approval. They are available in Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III studies.

  • Phase I trials evaluate the safety and appropriate dosing of a treatment.
  • Phase II studies examine how well it works.
  • Phase III trials compare it with the current standard of care in larger groups of patients.

Many clinical trials provide study-related treatments and services at no cost to participants, although coverage varies by study. Clinical trials help advance cancer care by identifying treatments that may be more effective, cause fewer side effects, or improve patients’ quality of life.

All patients are encouraged to ask their care team about clinical trial options.

Hear From Participants

Every clinical trial participant has a unique story. Hear directly from patients who chose to take part in clinical research at West Cancer Center and learn about their experiences, what participation meant to them, and why they chose to be part of advancing cancer care for the future.
